Associating cakes with birthdays initiated the tradition of bonding the desserts with occasions. Christmas cakes differ with countries and in India the Rum Cake is known for its rich taste of ginger and spices like nutmeg, cinnamon and rum. The recipe which originated from Allahabad is associated by mentioning this Indian city. Such rum cakes are also popular in Jamaica. The British Yule log or chocolate log and German Christstollen which is known for calculated portions of butter, fruits, almonds, nuts and icing sugar.

 American cakes are equally interesting owing to their fusion of normal cakes and sponge cakes. Popular cakes from the United States include coconut cake, chiffon cake, king cake, ice cream cake, gooey butter cake, devil’s food cake, Boston cream pie, red velvet cake, molten chocolate cake and New York style cheese cake.
